چکیده

Article history: Received 26 January 2013 Accepted 22 February 2013 Available online 21 March 2013 Kagitcibasi and Biricik (2011) presented generational IQ gains for Turkey on the Goodenough Draw-a-Man test (Draw-a-Person). Following their results (their Table 1) the mean IQ gain from 1977 to 2010 (33 years) across three different population groups was 5.24 IQ (per decade dec = 1.59 IQ points). However, Kagitcibasi and Biricik did not acknowledge the changing social composition of society: the share of groups which had a lower IQ in 1977 and 2010 decreased, and the share of groups which had a higher IQ in 1977 and 2010 increased. Considering this, we came to an estimate of dec = 3.52 IQ points for the FLynn effect in Turkey over the past decades. © 2013 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

The Flynn effect in neuropsychological assessment.

The Flynn effect refers to the rise in IQ throughout the 20th century. This study examined whether the Flynn effect has also elevated performance on neuropsychological tests. A search of published norms revealed five tests with appropriate normative data available for comparison. These tests were the Trail-Making Test (TMT), Symbol Digit Modalities Test (SDMT), Boston Naming Test, Finger Tappin...

Transmission of Cholera Disease with Laplacian and Triangular Parameters

A mathematical model has been introduced for the transmission dynamics of cholera disease by GQ Sun et al. recently. In this study, we add Laplacian and Triangular random effects to this model and analyze the variation of results for both cases. The expectations  and coefficients of variation are compared for the random models and the results are used to comment on the differences and similarit...

Heterosis doesn't cause the Flynn effect: a critical examination of Mingroni (2007).

Mingroni (2007) proposed that heterosis or hybrid vigor may be the principal driver of the Flynn effect--the tendency for IQ scores to increase at a rate of approximately 3 points per decade. This model was presented as a resolution to the IQ paradox--the observation that IQ scores have been increasing despite their high adult heritability--on the basis that substantial changes in IQ can only b...
